From using scientific methods to understand how scarce resources are exchanged within society, to studying theories and techniques useful for developing policies in government- Economics plays an important role in our lives. The first session of the NMS economics club aimed towards introducing fresh high schoolers to the basics of economics through the form of a bingo activity. Members had to correlate the definition of diverse yet common economic terms and cross as many out until they won. Incorporating bingo- a childhood favorite, into our session to form an interactive learning opportunity was quite frankly a stroke of genius. As students ourselves, we wanted to try our hand at an unorthodox way of learning; something different from what one would experience in a classroom. Throughout the session, we stayed away from maintaining a solemn environment, we wanted the experience to be buoyant and informal while also teaching our members something new and useful. Seeing their bright smiles and eager faces that twitched to yell BINGO at every word that we announced, brought joy to us. We followed the activity up by discussing inflation through the example of the Zimbabwean crisis of 2008, upon which we then showed a short video. We ended the session off by distributing a feedback form (which the members could anonymously fill) regarding the experience that they had.
